well here's to hoping Megumi gets far, far away from that woman.
Grandma Matchmaker seems to be aware of Megumi's family circumstances, which has lead to her dismissing Megumi as a potential candidate for marriage with Seiji. And that actually makes sense, after a fashion--arguably she does have a lot to consider when it comes to optics in the public eye and dealing with institutions on the scale of a major hospital. Japan puts a lot of emphasis on image and honor and whatnot among its citizenry, so that being first and foremost in the old bat's eyes is understandable in that sense.
What's more interesting, is she's also seemingly fine with Megumi being a mistress. Also a weird "image" thing, but I guess there's precedent with it, and if she believes it would keep Seiji happy while she gets her "picture perfect successor family", then.....yeah. I'm betting Marika is much more contemporary though, and is clearly taken aback at the notion that she'd have to play house with someone she likes in order to build this life she wants with her first love.
That all said -- hopefully Seiji is able to get to Megumi and help her. Bonus points if Matsui overhears and they end up assembling the cavalry to go and save the day, or something.
And, now that we're getting Megumi's backstory with her family drama, I get how there could be 16 more chapters of this. Looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out (I kinda want Marika and Megumi to be besties, whatever else happens).
