@Arexty: i think they are two separated powers, Kaito got the power to recreate humans from parts from the alien, and used that to create the Honoka that can enter people's minds.

The abomination Kaito created met Chihiro, but due to her using the coin it takes some time to take her into the void/heart of itself, everything from the flashback is not actually in Shuichi but abomination, reason why she could communicate with the spectator form Shuichi+Chihiro was.
