+1. Perhaps as the default option as well.
If enabled by default, I wonder what it would do to the chapter threads? Would we get more discussions or more memes?

Perhaps some people intentionally avoid comment threads in fear of spoilers (or overly good predictions). I don't think MD has this problem, but with an influx of new commenters, it might
Perhaps enabled by default for logged-in users, and disabled for guests? That way we don't accidentally spark people to join MD just to make a comment or reply to a person.
Eg. Someone reads "I wonder what will happen next" and are like "Oh, I know! I read the novel! Let me sign up real quick and make a comment. Rules... don't need to read those, I just want to say something."
I would say the risk of one time commenter influx is probably high enough to worry about it (I know everyone in my extended family to do this, including me). If you test the waters keep this risk in mind
