A great start, I think the author has a knack for storytelling instead of merely copying the other trash out there.

Rook is interesting choice of name, basically the pieces furthest out in the corner whereas the bishop are the closest to the king & queen.

Chapter 1 gave me great expectations. Chapter 2 was boring AF and disappointing. I get what the author is attempting to do by having him start from a place of weakness (both physically AND mentally), but I'm sorry, he/she overdid it in a way that really turned me off.
Well, on to the next chapter to see if it gets better.

What offensive capability does he have now? A floating light bulb and a mace/wand. That's a pretty poor set.
