If I remember correctly, he had a run-in with the guild in the previous town and had to escape in the middle of the night, so going back to F rank is also probably for keeping a low profile.

She's indeed cute. But props to him, since he "looked" inside the room and didn't saw anything that would indicate it was a personal room (like a bed, for example), that room just looked like a restricted section of the library.
