This chapter is really important to show how even though Kumiko has feelings for Shinohara, they don't necessarily connect on an emotional level and don't really confide in each other or anything. Shinohara is someone she's always admired from afar, but he doesn't really tell her anything about himself or anything. I mean, manga relationships have been built on less for sure, but I thought this was an important foil to her relationship with Shin, where they lean on each other and confide in each other even when she doesn't have feelings for him. That's a much more solid foundation for an (eventual) relationship
