So technically, we can reupload the more popular manga here as long as we don't do too many.
The
actual issue is when you got all these scanslation groups trying to make money and using MD as means of advertising to funnel readers onto their ad-driven sites with paywalls to get early access to new chapters.
Noticed that pretty much all the stuff that got DMCA'd on MD was stuff being translated by the bigger scanslation groups that try to make a profit? Groups like Soseki, GalaxyDegen, and Flame Comics just to name a few...
This is why they've redone the rules to make it clear that scans groups can't be using the site to funnel readers into their own site. It's not so much that they're not allowed to have a website, just that they want to make it less likely that MD is gonna get DMCA'd like that again. And really, having a separate website to host titles off of MD is pretty damn idiotic if you ask me.
Why?
Because you gotta
pay for the domain,
pay for the hosting, and
pay for the bandwidth. And then you gotta maintain the site yourself or
pay someone to do it... And this doesn't even get into the scanslation itself - if you're trying to be all "professional" about it and
pay for a staff and
pay for high-definition raws. Shit adds up
real fucking fast.
Meanwhile, you have MD which does it all for free. At which point, it's a no-brainer that leaves no room for excuses. The only people who go the route of having their own website is because they're trying to turn a profit.
This is why I'll be making it abundantly clear on my credits pages: While I appreciate the thought, I don't want your money. Instead, please donate to Mangadex, and then go to Amazon/Bookwalker/CD Japan to buy the originals to support the mangaka (and help stave off the dreaded Ax-kun).
