I think the original Golden Man is meant to be a mix of Homelander & Metroman wherein he's a manufactured hero and is facing identity and moral issues. But instead of quitting to pursue a passion, he decides to go full Homelander trying to keep appearance whilst showing his true extent of freeing immorality outside of the camera. And also helps that the character design is spot on that sort of uncanny niceness that he emanates, where everything he does feels disingenuous.

Holy retcon did blues ever seem relieved Chelly became golden man the whole time she was worried he would suck or turn out to be evil
Yet you want me to believe that she noticed moriboshi was such a tool that whole time?
On more than one occasion showing he doesn't care for anything and she let's it slide?????

Moroboshi has that same menecing vibe as Homelander but with the personality of Patrick Bateman.
