I'm late for the party, but I agree with everyone, everything up to this point had been a rather fun if a bit too trophy travel, just fun "junk food" isekai, but the choices made in this chapter are questionable at best. As others have pointed out, he showed he is strong enough to defeat everyone, even when confronted by the headmaster, the MC gave up because it would be too much of a bother, not because he felt the headmaster was stronger than him. At the very least, the headmaster could have been more smart in his approach, like saying that he wouldn't disqualify him and the two girl friends if he refused to be labelled as the worse, and since the MC knows how important is for the first girlfriend, he would agreed to it. It would make the villain headmaster look more cunning, and the MC more selfless. But as it is, it just look like a paint by the trope manga. I will continue reading, but I lost the wind that I had until now.

Aaaand dropped. I enjoy my trash isekai and isekai-adjacent series, but this force-strongest-into-lowest-rank trope was a bridge too far for me. Maybe if it had been handled well and set up or justified in advance, but there was zero effort or setup here.

He should have just told them the headmaster prevented his participation in the scholarship match. Why exactly was he protecting that old ghoul? I bet he won't even later go to extort any benefits from the cadaver. But then again, he wouldn't gain anything from revealing the fact either. If it was an MC with more guts, I could imagine he will play by the headmaster's rules for now, just to collect interest later. But this MC with his servant-mentality wouldn't do such a thing. I mean, he was the most powerful person in the world in his previous life, yet in this life he happily served a scumbag family of corrupt nobles, who didn't show him any gratitude or respect, no matter how much work he did for the fiefdom. So, the MC is just a plain old idiot, despite supposedly having been a sage previously.

Or more like the author is an idiot.
