I'm used to storytelling techniques in manga being kind of heavy-handed; this moves so deftly that I lost sight of the author's hands and got lost in the story despite it being so twisty-turvy and full of sharp stops and turns.
As an aside, this is sort of interesting in that a number of pretty horrifying things happen, but what should the most shocking bits almost glide past nonchalantly. You get in the headspace of one of the characters almost immediately—a charming and sweet character at that—and so see everything through their lens of moral relativity, and partially coloured with their emotions.
A sweet, sad, dark, wistful and hopeful story.
With a side-order of inter-dimensional confusion in the later bits.
