The thing is we see that Sakura is still heavily on Shinobu's mind. As we've seen when he even compared the cooking Fumi made to Sakura. He's trying to move on but he can't stop thinking about her.I too doubt she is out of the story. But she is also not that much of compelling character anymore like used to be. Especially since her whole character revolved around Shinobu. To audience as well, she is kind irredeemable. Hell, the Japanese are calling for her to step down as FMC.
I feel like Shinobu is better of ranting and crying his feelings out to someone like his childhood friend, his blonde roommate, his landlord, or Fumi herself than seeing Sakura again. That is more healing than trying to seek closure from someone who obviously who doesn’t give af about you.
And regarding Sakura? I’d prefer she finds out through Fumi. The same way Shinobu had to find out through Yuma and go through the same shit Shinobu went through but worse as she is the main culprit.
What Fumi is doing is trying to help him. To take away his distraction. Its not like he hasn't shown interest in Fumi but hell.. that dude is resilient. We can't forget how he stopped Nagi mid blowjob because he felt it wasn't right back at the island. He wasn't even dating Sakura then! That's the difference between the two. He can show restraint.
If he wants to try and move on with Fumi, it won't be easy. He'll likely deny her out of guilt because Sakura is on his mind. That's why Sakura is still vital in the story. He's not content with the situation and needs some kind of closure likely through Sakura herself.
