And about your question... I don't know, frankly.

At the end of the day, we're just speculating, since the creative process varies wildly between mangaka, even within the same publisher, and unless someone spills the beans, especially given the positive sales, who knows?

Like, despite Grapara's sales, who's to say KA herself wasn't happy with them?
Especially after coming from Karami Zakari, a series that sold fuckloads and that she KEEPS pumping out stuff for. Or who's to say KA didn't stub her toe one day, get pissed off, and tell her editor "You know what, fuck this bitch-ass manga, I'm ending it next volume."

Who's to say it wasn't the editor who suggested the NTR? Or that the NTR was always going to happen and simply sped up the process once the axe was decided? (A theory I personally believe in after reading the interview she gave at the beginning)

Like, people were talking about Meguro a few pages ago, and funny enough, one of the last articles the mangaka posted on her... blog thingie? basically said that some decisions I personally disliked about that manga early on, were actually pushed by her editor (also from Kodansha)

If I go by what I can actually see, I'd say the manga ended either because of KA's own decision, because we're missing something regarding the sales despite how positive they seem, or because there was genuinely bad blood between KA and Kodansha, and given some of the recent news about how the publisher was treating its mangaka, the latter isn't as far-fetched as it sounds.

What happens next is also important: If KA gets another serialization under Kodansha in the nearby future, especially Mangapoke or Yanmaga, which seriously loves this bitch, then I'd say it was either "sales were decent, but we're still unhappy with them, so let's try a new project" or KA herself decided to end this and move on.

But if she moves to another publisher entirely or goes back to indie, then I'd suspect something went down with Kodansha. In that case, I'd bet the NTR came from KA being pissed about the situation.

But once again, all of this is pure speculation.

As an kinda related-unrelated note, Miike Kei's manga ended recently as well.

This manga is the one that I DO go full conspiracy theory over, because I truly believe it happened purely because of Airi's influence on Yanmaga after the success of Karami Zakari.

At the beginning of its run, if you entered Yanmaga, you were going to get hit with advertisements for this. They were pushing it super hard, 100% expecting it to be the next Karami Zakari.

Can you imagine if these two go back to making a manga together after Grapara ends?

Miike Kei definitely thought he could spoon off some of the success they had with Karami zakari. Save to say they failed spectacularly. heck even Airi promoting that shitfest didn’t help boost sales :kek:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a manga uploading their chapters for free.

Aside from Green Yuri because it’s just posted on twitter and Sumiko Arai is even okay with the fact that people are fan translating her work

How bad was the open ending in this one, I don't know what the MC and FMC say to each other at the time skip reunion but I hear MC rather than breaking up with her on his own accord got pressured more my peers/family than anything.

Istg if Airi-sensei pulls something similar I'm gonna hurl something.

I'm pretty sure there will be an epilogue ch in the last vol, so we'll have to wait to see if he can make a bit more decent ending. I doubt, but you never know...
