I really don't want a "Chapter 129.5" special; I'd much rather have a proper "After Story" (Chapter 136). If possible, I'd love for Nishikida Keishi to write it.
Apologies! Jokingly entertaining Airi's options for an extra final laugh in case her ending here wasn't enough for her and the social media backlash irks her enough to bring out the petty.

At the surface level the ending (mostly the final pages) is truly difficult to feel good about. At the same time though if you think enough about it you'll see what Airi might've been going for but then people will call it "cope", so just interpret this ending as you're comfortable to is the lesson here.

Being the fan of Airi that they are, I think the artist even if they're solely put in charge will take Airi's input, or put an "Airi" spin on it as a show of respect one final time. My predictions in descending order of likelihood: Chico, 136.5, Mio, Fumi, Nagi and THEN 129.5?!

You don't need to apologize to me; I understand that you were joking.
I'm also afraid that if Airi gets angry then episode 129.5 will be written.

Let's read bonus 2 Live Action Drama Shooting Report Manga by KA to relieve stress. https://mangadex.org/chapter/5a16c0a0-6b61-49fd-a036-4beb6c6656be/1
If this part had allowed Airi Katsura to continue writing "GraPara!" without these bizarre NTR, harassment, and sexual abuse elements, it wouldn't have ended in 14 volumes. The live-action drama version is only saved by not having those elements and is as harmless as the original work.

Unfortunately, the author followed her impulses and managed to ruin the story, with no chance whatsoever of changing anything. How did things get to this point? 😔

It's a real shame.

What other reasons grapara is entirely her story she is the one who wrote it the good and the bad. So yes we are all here because of HER story it's her story to write the way she want even if you and I disagree with the direction she took it. PS now she has gotten one (kill yourself whore) so shit has gotten out of hand and really stupid.
I feel like you are giving her an excuse that no sensible creative would give themselves. They wouldn't end everything they work on by thanking fans for the support if they were gonna turn around and take this isolated take. Creatives are free to do what they want, how they want, and the people that support that work with time and money are free to offer their thoughts and remarks, some of which will be unconstructive but that literally comes with the territory of social media.

The thing is she could have let those unsavory elements be there and just be a comedy like it was in the beggining. It's not the first time I read a manga that makes comedy of the concept of bimbos mrmagooing themselves into sexually harrasing by sleazy scumbags.

The problem is the awful bait and switch into a drama aiming for a cheap emotional turmoil and growth just for the ending because you got a big head and think you are hot shit. You either make the bait and switch into something worth the switch or just keep doing your shitty ecchi, don't make this. Less you do this only to in the end introduce us into a Tim and Eric sketch about "the genius of bed scenes" without the comedic tone.

It's so fucking incredible the author didn't realize how innately funny "the genius of bed scenes" character is, being a buddha level cuck who takes his inner turmoil of being played and cucked and transforms it into breathtaking cinematography. It's a million dolar idea joke... and she plays it straight. Fucking hack of a writer, man, I tell you.

Yeah, that's just total sore loser hack attitude, it's pretty evident she is lying and scapegoating foreigners, it's one of the saddest things I've read. I dropped this almost in the beggining because I wasn't in the mood for Potential Lawsuit in the Workplace Romcom: The Manga, but I can understand that if you are into that, god bless you and hope you enjoy it. But I went to read the mentioned chapter 129 onwards and some chapters earlier for reference and no one with 1+ functioning braincells believes this is not controversial in Japan because the tone was totally different from that point onward, plus it only would have happened if everyone in this story just became so stupid they forget the act of communication with other human beings.

I'm sorry, not talking to your significant other about a possible cheating situation, go cheating yourself and us readers witnessing is not like she was doing it out of spite or not giving a fuck about her relationship anymore, but something that happened to her and she just accepted it, with no pushback or inner turmoil, only would happen if that girl was suddenly mentally unfit and in need of a legal guardian. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, but just only that is such an amount of bullshit that would need chinese industry 5 year planification levels of suspension of disbelief. And a woman whose line of work is borderline sex work, no less.

The other thing is the ending. We know you are aiming for an hentai level plot development (derogatory). It's just hack writing through and through. The idea of him doing this kind of emotional artsy NTR film scene is something only a 14yo doing fanfics, or a stupid person who believes this is what an auteur does, would think it's profound. This is just cringe.

This person can lie to herself all she wants about only foreigners complaining about her writing, but at some point she has to understand this is the end of the line for her art if she surrenders to her denial of the situation. You are not a good writer nor you will get better if this is your answer for something that is very obvious a really bad piece of writing for everyone who has read it. And you cannot be a bad writer and be such a sore loser when criticized, just soldier on, uninstall your social media, seek help from your editor and get better. I would be assblasted if I did something evidently wrong in my job and still scapegoated to my coworkers, why the fuck this woman thinks she is exempt of critique?

What a sad state of affairs.
And a waste of good art too. I feel bad for the artist. This sort of art should be paired with a good story. Not this.

GraPara, truly the finest example of hack writing I have ever seen. Not worst manga of all time. But one of the worst mangas of 2026.

We can criticise any author’s work from the moment it is published, because by publishing it they are exposing it to public opinion – and I’m talking about any form of art: painting, music, books, comics, etc. Criticism should always be reasoned and should relate solely to the published work but I think that no author deserves to be criticised on a personal level. If we resort to personal attacks, we are completely in the wrong. However angry we may be that the work presented isn’t what we would have liked it to be, we must never stoop to personal attacks. There will always be crazy people, especially on social media, but the best thing to do is to ignore them.

As for Grapara! I still hold the same view: after chapters 128–129, the story went into a decline because it crossed a line it should never have crossed, and it ended in the worst possible way, ruining the characters of almost everyone by forcing an impossible reunion. Better not talk about the ending and the clasped hands.

I suppose that, given the number of episodes the authors had to work with, they tried to craft a decent ending, but I think they could have done a better job if they hadn’t closed off so many avenues themselves.

Thanks again to the translators and all my fellow adventure-seekers on the forum… let’s hope we meet up again soon over another manga.

Just not Grapara! 2, please… :02:

This so much.

When it comes to this kind of online drama, you just ignore it, and it will quickly go away, especially when it's quite clear that 90% of the people complaining on Twitter are coming from grifters and drama-seeking news sites and didn't even know Grapara was a thing before Ch129. It's always hilarious to read those "I bought ALL the volumes up to this point, but no more, you're EVUL!" comments because they're full of shit.

Hell, before this new wave of hate, most of the replies she was getting came from a clearly mentally ill Colombian named "Alex" or something, who was spamming from like four different accounts, all repeating the same shit.

Had she said nothing, people would've moved on to the next drama in like a few days and forgotten entirely about her. And this isn't just on Katsura Airi, because Japanese artists in general just don't know how to handle online drama at all.
Please be realistic, the other manga creators really know they've to keep quiet (like you said earlier) to let the drama go away. It's a common sense of mature people that they won't quarrel like children. LOL

For example, Keishi Nishikida sensei, the Grapara's artist never reply any X, no matter they said good or bad things.

So, IN GENERAL, Japanese artists know how to handle online drama! You don't have to worry about them. LOL

It's only Airi Katsura (sensei) who retaliated against others with lies and distortions. She's abnormal. LOL

Moreover, normally, the publisher always uses the editor to control the manga artist to keep their good image.

Kodansha is famous for (good) image control, unlike the other publishers who failed such as Shogakukan, Kodansha always solved the problem behind the public perception and never allow their artists to get into arguments with readers online if they're going to continue working together.

So, my die-hard Kodansha fan's friend said since the chapter 129 drama happened that Airi Katsura (sensei) might be axed prior to the chapter 129, so Kodansha let her ruined herself as she pleased because she'll not work with them anymore after Grapara ends and the volume 14 has been decided to be the last volume before chapter 129 was released. (We'll see whether she'll have a new work with Kodansha)

The fact that no one stepped in to stop AK (sensei) from behaving very childish might confirm the rumor she had been fired before chapter 129 is true. Notably, the title of chapter 129 is a wailing sex sound that clearly a dig at the publisher, Kodansha.

Even though the plots (chapter 132-134) was repeatedly revised in a chaotic attempt to negotiate with Kodansha to change their mind, the effort was unsuccessful and Grapara had to conclude as originally scheduled with the volume 14.

BTW, how about the Comiket? Did you spend time to see the real AK (sensei)?

It's not HER story because half of Grapara's rights belongs to the artist, Keishi Nishikida sensei! Normally, they share the revenue 50:50 for the author and artist.

Before she does anything, she must think of him too but she didn't !!!

The fact that she got into arguments with readers shows she never really cared about KN sensei because she had other sources of income while KN sensei relied on the revenue from Grapara.

(So, I replied to @Alsatia's praise that Airi Katsura (sensei) was fake trying to use KN sensei as a shield to lessen the backlash)

That is why I don't buy her claim that people shouldn't be angry with KN sensei. AK (sensei) is not sincere, she's just acting she cares KN sensei but she doesn't really care.

If she truly cared, she should have considered him, her 50% partner, before taking those actions, rather than harming his source of income by destroying Grapara and then shifting the blame onto foreigners.

The ending of "Grapara" reminds me of a manga I read a while ago called "Rarefure," which seemed like a romantic comedy with a lot of eroticism, but after chapter 20, I think, it became full of NTR.
But the FMC ended up with MC, wasn't it?

When I read it, I skipped from the first few chapters to the end of the story and found it's a happy ending for the FMC and MC.

Yeah they became a happy couple at the end.
The whole story is not the generic NTR you see everywhere... MC had another GF who cheated on him, but he loved FMC who had a another guy. He was actually a good guy that pushed FMC to go for MC at the end, after he noticed they love each other...
