Well, there is a lot more build up to what is going on currently. The scene in this chapter is really meant to bring Shinobu and Sakura closer together, and complete the establishment of their relationship. While where it is leading to is the culmination of many things, Sakura's insecurities and her drive to succeed for herself, Shinobu, and her mother.

Why did he not call her immediately before leaving to tell her he had to cancel (impromptu emergency)? He ghosted her for no reason.

on another note:

The contract was predatory and sketchy, but might actually be legal under japan's labor laws.
But there is no way that footage would hold up in court.
1) The manager was wearing a mask so no telling if he is who he says he is in the video.
2) He is a manager, but does he have the right to void a contract with a talent for the company, on his own w/o approval?
3) The statements made were under duress, and are not legally binding.

First consider the dynamic before Shinobu shows that he has been recording. The director could have try to sue for the ten million (about 10 thousand dollars). She could have fought it, but that is about the same amount she would need to hire a lawyer. She could testify about being coerced to appear in a porno, but without evidence, it probably wouldn’t make a difference. She could eventually win, but the manager would be at an advantage and it would make her life hell.

But with this recording, even if it didn’t truly void the contract or was inadmissible as evidence, it would still raise questions the manager wouldn’t want to deal with. The police would hear it and could start an investigation of their own, or the news could pick it up too. It flips the dynamic and now puts Sakura at the advantage. Better for him to just let her go.

Overall, the girls in this manga will always be in danger. That is kind of the point.
