I feel like there's something wrong with the Chinese... I mean those characters...
The guy gets an important task and just does everything to fuck it up to the point of literal death. Quintessential "You had one job". Are all Chinese people like this? As soon as they THINK they have just a tiny bit of leverage over another person they immediately go into apeshit tyrannical mode? Is this some form of social commentary on Maoist society? WTF is wrong with you, China?

The general populace, is what is wrong.
At least i can't see it as a coincidence that in literally every last one of those "cultivation" or "system" stories the tropes are so mind-numbing and bland.

It's hardly possible to find any originality in any of those stories, to the point of them blending together in one big lump of "hur-dur mc is stronk, all other are idiots"

Finding one antagonist who shows at least passable level of intelligence is a rare thing indeed.
