Going through the WN now, and man, their dynamic gets interesting. Let's just say normal convention gets thrown out the window in amusing ways. Interested to see how much the manga adapts.

One particular chapter had me continuously trying to dodge the reflex interpretation of the dialogue, even after I already figured out what the actual scene was

I kind of think the irony here is that when Rei repeatedly shows he has no ulterior motives (didn't expect anything in return -> ok with just a "Thank you" -> will end up compromising on a very mundane form of a thank you payment), that will end up drawing Hina to him like a magnet.

And with your statement, at least in the WN, the setup is in place, just gotta actually execute that in the future

Finally caught up with the WN. Oh man, if the manga can adapt far enough to get to the side characters, they are hilarious. And some of the scenarios get so wacky, especially ones from Hina that actually shouldn't take too long for the manga to intro into basic scenarios
