I think (depending on where the author wants to go with this), them not becoming a 2nd couple is probably better for now tho. Otherwise, the mangaka will be in the comfortable position of having another couple interestingly enough it might contest w/ the main one.
On the other hand, if the plan was to turn this into an anthology-style story shifting between individual couples in a shared universe, this'd totally make sense, so I'm curious what it'll be...

I think it's a little too late for them not to become a 2nd couple at this point, because the author essentially already created the hook for them. Now fans have this question/plotline of "when will these two get together" in the back of their minds whenever a new chapter drops. They're very volatile as is. Even if the author wants full attention back to the main couple, she'd need to write ayazawa to a stable point in their relationship, where they can just exist as background characters rather than have an ongoing plot thread like they currently do.

That being said I think they're currently at a stable enough point (mutual-ish feelings, established status quo of bandmates) where you can ignore them for a solid while (maybe passively mention them doing band stuff in the bg), but that will again build up anticipation until she'll need to inevitably push their progress forward (altho there isn't much to push beyond them just dating).

Tangentially, I also think they're an interesting foil to the main couple, they start off at essentially two opposite points. Our two gyaru start dating before REALLY developing their romantic feelings, they just kinda get along, are both single and figure that they'll trial date which leads to them having a real relationship where they're both deeply in love. Ayazawa start with both characters separately being super infatuated with the other for at least a year, pathetically so (seriously they can both barely function), and are instead fumbling around in the "actually start dating" phase. I almost think the author wrote them so that she can explore some of the feelings she couldn't due to the initial set-up of the oneshot.
