man the arc is really dragging with nothing of interest happening...

In a strange way, the story has managed to properly instill in the reader what a conflict that drags on and on does to one's mental state and just wanting it to be over...
just like the conficlt drags on... this arc has too and we're tired of it, it needs to spends much less pages in filler

It's pretty realistic it's dragging on with that killing is forbidden rule from the royal house. In a traditional war, House Baumeister would have ended this conflict in a single day, with overwhelming power. But since this is just theater and jousts, even the side with negligible power can keep pretending they are still fully in the fight.

@lesseffective @Eliminateur

NGL think this should have been over within days of them taking the other side's mages during the duels. The Marquess should have walked his troops accrossed the field while Wend popped into their backlines and captured the leadership like he did the soldiers at the mining camp.

I won't deny this author has a story to tell, and does an ok job of it, but they tend to take a long winded approach that wears out the reader. But even a semicompetent military commander could have ended this stand off long ago when the disparities between their militaries is this vast.

Everyone wants a quick win. It’s instant gratification. All the dopamines.

It’s internal bickering, so the empire strictly limits the conflict to limit casualties and destruction. Rampant death and destruction would not benefit anyone, and it’s not like it’s a civil war/rebellion. It’s just 2 noble camps havin a good scrum.

Except it's not even a scrum anymore. Wend's side did their due diligence and spent the last month capturing squad after squad of mercs, soldiers, and knights. While the Marquis's sons have been squabbling like toddlers over who would be the hier once their father passes.

However as this isnt Margrave Breithild's first conflict with these people, he should have moved much sooner then this. Soon as they were sufficiently weakened, he should have moved in, forced a surrender, and then marched on the House's manor to demand an explanation for the brothers's cowardice and mishandling of the entire conflict.

IMO the Blois camp prolly are stupid/distracted enough to not realize that Breithild would call in Wend’s party to end the skirmish quickly. There’s also that whole formality of limiting casualties between 2 sizeable armies, and that the retainers need to get some level of prestige/gold-farming via the duels.

True, but that happened weeks ago. Wend spent nearly a month going around to the different combat zones to capture their soldiers, mercs and knights. They then spent an additional few weeks on dueling with, posturing at, and recruiting from the Marquis's main force camped out in front of Margrave Breithild.

So it should have been easy for the Margrave to just form up his men, advance accrossed the field, and then just before calling for their general surrender have Wend render their commanders and backline support unconscious like he did in every other instance during this conflict.

From there, there would be none of this negotiating BS, just march to their capital and dictate terms on the doorstep of the Marquis seat of power where the toddler brothers are holding their slap fight.
