Lemme guess before flipping the page. The "heart" trial is a test of compassion and the person who chooses to sacrifice themself will be the actual survivor. That's why there is also only 2 survivors; one from each room. Could the author have made it anymore obvious? 😑 I'd be surprised if it went a different direction.
