Fun fact! Female Hyenas are famous for having massive, rigid pseudo-penises!
This is unrelated to the current chapter!

People... There's going to be no pegging, as female hyenas aren't futanari or anything like that, they mate using the pseudo-penis as a vagina (so the males need practice to angle it just right, and that's all I'm going to say about it), and they also give birth via pseudo-penis as well, which you imagine, isn't a pleasant experience.
So yeah... I don't think the author is going for a monster-girl angle here.
Hey everyone, I found Buzz Killington.
Seriously though, be not a bitch, let us dream.

Huh. That's a very recent update. As recently as a month ago, it said "female". Not sure which is true, tbh.
That's fair. Ultimately it doesn't matter, as sexism spans across all genders. As I said, it is more common in male magakas, but female ones do it as well, usually against their own gender.

This is bugging me now... 🫤

I dug around a little, but the only information source I found is the author's "十五夜" Pixiv account, which lists their gender as "Male" (click "View profile" to see this). While I should probably take that as the final answer, some part of me wishes to remain unconvinced. Perhaps I resist only because I've believed for so long that "she" is female.

Does it matter? Yes and no. The art is the same either way, but I want the artist to be a woman because I'd rather not see their female characters as the idealized objects of straight male desire. I suppose that's silly, but it's difficult to let go of the feeling. I confess that I felt more fond of Ochiai and Kyoko when I thought of them as a straight woman's artistic alter egos. In retrospect, their "cute" helplessness and total dependence on male validation probably should have tipped me off from the beginning.

As for the sexism charge, its validity depends on how we interpret the joke. If "I'm not sure which of us is the girl anymore" is meant to mock Hyena-chan's supposed masculinity, then yes, it's a sexist joke. But if it's making fun of the male narrator's insecurity (and masculine fragility in general), then it's not. I think the former is more likely, so you're probably right. But again, if the author were female, I'd be more inclined to assume the latter, or an ironic layering of both.
