Unfortunately this is where we're stuck with low-res webrips.
As you can now tell by the title in the 1st panel, page 17 is where this technically broke into 2 separate chapters. AriSaku updates in halves every 2 weeks and I'm still on the fence of whether I should follow that schedule or wait the month for each chapter to be complete before uploading. Mostly because some seem adamantly against half-chapter TLs.

I love how raw the lines in this manga are. 'But you couldn't trust your little sister?' hits like a physical force. And there's a fun cut with 'I'm actually Kasumi,' a line fairly innocent on its own but a total rejection of the comfort of their RP Haruyo was starting to slide into. (Coupled with Haruyo wanting to turn back time cutting to a flashback.)

If you were lamenting the loss of anonymous epistolary yuri, hopefully the flirtatiousness of that handholding + handwriting scene made up for it. Things start ramping up in a way that makes you wonder where Haruyo learned to do this stuff. Because god she's a dork in her natural state. If last chapter dismantled the "Onee-sama" fantasy, this one smashes it into pieces. Only to consciously rebuild it at the end. As others have noted, the contrast of Onee-sama (younger, naive, carefree, struggling to meet Kasumi's demands) x Little Sister (older, burdened by harsh experience and mental trauma, desperately retreating into a submissive persona) is the true essence of this manga. Now that we get into Haruyo's head we see just how 'in over it' she is. But she does have the natural gay instincts and honest stubbornness to close the distance.

And speaking of Haruyo's many faces, it's not easy putting a voice to each of them. Especially when there's some small bubbles to work with. So I cheated a little. In the raws, Kasumi is annoyed when Haruyo speaks politely to her. It actually happened on page 17 when she called her 'Senpai'. So when she's in Onee-sama mode, Haruyo actually speaks more casually. Though to clarify: her speech is still very feminine. Since this can be hard to express in English with just a few words (while Japanese just has to drop the desu), I'm instead making Onee-sama slightly more formal, which means her 'kouhai' speech needs to be unrefined in juxtaposition. I think it captures the stark difference in a way that's more natural in English. I did find it a little easier with Kasumi, who (very minor spoiler) is going to make the opposite switch when speaking in little sister mode. This manga has so many subtle shifts in language I'd actually seen translators say they passed on picking it up for that very reason.

Anyway the rose. If it wasn't obvious, the rose (Haruyo is a rose remember?) isn't the real thing but Kasumi loves it anyway. Exquisite symbolism.

Holy heck I love Haruyo and her low key rich AF family. Even her brother who looks like a fuqboi jerk is very supportive with his little sis, who is somehow having love troubles. Tho I don't think the two are even realizing that they are in a romance story now that they've made up.

Thanks for the translation. Hoping to see more fuzzy heartwarmy scenes of the two as they get to know each other better

Thanks a lot for picking this up, this is low-key amazing. And I really like your adaptation idea; not faithful to the letter but to the spirit, and done with great subtlety.
The manga is also very good, the drawings are beautiful and put a lot of emphasis on the characters and the ambiance. The expressions are funny and nice, the humor lands, the characters are interesting and lovely... There is a lot of subtext (helped by the good translation!) but it's not necessary to pick on all clues and hidden meanings to get what is happening.
I just love those two dorks <3
So, again, thank you for translating this.

I think it depends how this series handles where it splits the chapters.

One of my series also has it's chapters split into parts but the first part almost always ends on a cliffhanger and I know that can get tiring for people so I just hold off on uploading it until I have all parts of the chapter done. But if the point where this series splits feels like a natural enough pause it could be okay to do them in parts.

10/10 chapter from a 10/10 manga. Haruyo is super adorable, to the point it's basically impossible to be mad at her for doing what she did before. And her dynamic with Kasumi is very cute: I love that she tried to take the lead with the handholding scene to "overcompensate" for not exactly being an Onee-san and I love that she managed to crack Kasumi up at the library scene even though she "wanted" to stay mad (while already not being that much mad, cause it was a very understandable thing).

Anyway, as for this:

a) I can't tell it's a "low-res webrip" even after you telling me it is one. So I'm good with those.

b) I'd rather have the releases ASAP, just like the original. It's not like they end abruptly or anything, they're listed as "half chapters" but they do feel like regular chapters and end at reasonable spots (like here, ending in page 16 makes sense after Haruyo shows her resolve and before it cuts away to the classroom scene).

Plus, it's just nice to have more constant releases instead of a month-long wait (which is gonna be the case when we catch up to the raw).

And, hell, people who only want to read "whole" chapters (again, the half chapters already feel like full chapters) can simply wait for both to come out and then read it like that, right?

EDIT: also, as for the translation stuff, you're CLEARLY trying to stay as faithful to the original as possible and that's all one can ask for! You're doing a fantastic job! Especially compared to so many crappy "professional" translators these days. It's a labour of love and it shows.

Thank you for your hardwork!

This is getting more and more amazing! I love the stark difference of tone between this chapter and the first four. It would be interesting if they keep this switch-back-and-forth dynamic for exchange letters vs face-to-face interactions.

Also great credit pages. I think i already subconsciously differ their modes (even though English is not my first language) because of your impressive translation. ❤️👍

I think the art style lends itself to lower-res raws - I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said anything, because for me it's less about the level of fidelity than it is the overall atmosphere of the lighting and "vibe" of each panel and page. And that still came through 100%, in my mind.

The notes at the end were chef's kiss, and I am so so thankful for them as always.
The library scene was pure magic. Reconnecting and working through (Ka)Sumi-chan's anger until it defused into pouty kouhai cuteness via passing notes in her notebook was a lovely mirroring of their initial contact, and I cannot get over how amazing it is that Haruyo is so tall and gangly next to Kasumi and how wonder the multi-faceted mixing of their ages, roles, and physicality works to turn this whole concept on its head.

Just....I love this story. Thank you Thank you Thank you for bringing it to life here for us, @Beltaro .

I love how raw the lines in this manga are. 'But you couldn't trust your little sister?' hits like a physical force.
I started tearing up at that line, and I think I cried a little but in a happy way by the end of the chapter.

Thank you for the explanation dive on the manga. It definitely elevates it even more. Haruyo's handholding was so smooth that girl'll be a heartbreaker if she breaks up with Kasumi. Communication is vital to a relationship. They've moved from long distance (effectively) to short distance. And they're making strides to be just as strong. I trust they'll have a good work out.

Why punch your "onee sama", when you can bend her over your knee and slap that ass. Onee sama has been a bad girl and deserves to be punished. What makes it even more funny is that Haruyo is indeed younger so the punishment is appropriate.
