I can only imagine the fight between Sendo and Ricardo turning into a self-destructive one. Instead of worrying about getting hit, Sendo is probably just going to go at him relentless and force Ricardo to switch from his calm and calculating persona back to his original style turning it into a slug fest.

With that resulting in Sendo ending his career early.

Sendo will lose, but not be left in a condition so severe that he can't attend his grandmother's deathbed in her last moments. That's already happened to Mashiba. It wouldn't have nearly the same impact if it happened to Sendo immediately afterwards. Wouldn't fit Ricardo's style, either.

I don't think his career will end yet, either... If (When?) Ippo ever does stage his comeback, he's going to need opponents standing in the way to Ricardo - and who better than his oldest rivals, taking out their frustration over how goddamn long it took, as stand-ins for the readers getting blueballed year after year?

One of Ricardo's thoughts was "What does it mean to be strong?" That's Ippo's own question from way back. Sendo says he's "become the strong man he is today" as well. So I think we're reaching a conclusion sometime soon (in Ippo time).

Probable, but Morikawa's been simplifying his art style for awhile now so it could just be that
When you have to crank out chapters with as many pages as Hajime no Ippo, you have to simplify your art style. It's simply not possible to draw a detailed Ippo still not getting in the ring week after week, month after month, year after year; please understand.

I can't believe Ricardo has observation haki.

Also HE SAID THE THING!. Even at the top you still ask this question. I really can't wait for more development on Ricardo's side. There's so much more to him to be found out.

Thanks for the chapter.
We are going full circle. Maybe both will find the answer during their fight.

Sendo is gonna lose... i had a strange theory that sendo could somehow beat ricardo then he fights miyata and miyata wins then ippo comes back and fights sendo then miyata but i doubt it would go like that.
Yeah, that would deny Ippo the chance to fight Ricardo, I don't see it happening either. George built up Ricardo too much so we know he's not gonna lose before he faces Ippo (or Miyata if Miyata vs Ippo is the endgame we're going for). Kinda makes this arc a bit of a chore but oh well

At this point, I can’t help to wonder if George is try to write retirement arcs for Ippo’s closest contemporaries (except Miyata, maybe) before going back to Ippo again (if ever).

At least Volg managed to become a world champ. Clearly the secret is to becoming champion is to be either the author's pet character (Takamura), or someone he doesn't give a flying fuck about. Anything in between, and you're toast.

Damn this chapter was Awesome! With the 3 cute Mari panels plus the full spread of what Ricardo (supposedly) was thinking, this has been one of the best between fight chapters in a while. Plus next chapter we might get a Mom-Son chat? Ippo's mom has always been his No. 1 priority and Ippo really feels like he's at a crossroads here in regards to Boxing and Kumi so I can't wait to hear what she has to say to him in regards to his current situation.

I don’t consider Volg as among Ippo’s closest contemporaries (just an ordinary one) because his circumstances are so different and harsh. He had to leave his country to box and his fights are almost all away from his home country.

On the other hand, the likes of Sendo, Mashiba, and Miyata are more similar to Ippo, they’re all Japanese, doing boxing mostly in their home country, they can spend some time abroad, but ultimately they come home and get a lot of support there, hell, the title fights keep mostly happening in Japan (perhaps for economic reasons).
In some ways they’re quite privileged and to some extent perhaps reflective of the Japanese boxers’ careers that the author has observed (or the ones from his gym).

Outside of all that is as you said, the author’s pet character, Takamura.

I think Miyata will take down Ricardo, so that Ippo vs Miyata will be the ultimate match of the series.
Ricardo's cool and all but the connection between him and the other fighter's just isn't strong enough.

Morikawa may not even remember doing this, but one other time he has portrayed Ricardo's thinking speed in exactly the same way.

Basically he is a pro athlete with the thinking speed of an esports pro

This guy could've competed with Flash in Brood War lmao

@PapaTengri i noticed two typo's (imo)
p9 "he GOTT me before i could throw!" (miyata) page 9 (take out one "t")
p17 "we won't be able to take the BIT out tomorrow either" (i guess maybe it's "bin"?)
cheers and thanks for your work :) (some text overfill there for sure during the punching exchange panel(s)... :/)
Also on p11 (the punching exchange), the paragraph "5 centimeters out and 10 centimeters down" repeats twice (in the right-most column).

I saw that Ricardo. Even at the peak bro is still thinking about the same thing Ippo has this entire time, what does it mean to be strong. I think this bodes well for us.
That's awesome. I thought it was miyata's thinking for some reason.
