Nah, the coach just let all their wins get to his head. This is a simple fix but very dangerous mistake.
The coach has shown that he can in fact be useful and the training he assigns has produced factually tough to put down Boxers.
Kimura and Aoki are used as jokes most of the time but they are still characters who were only inches away from snatching title belts
Takamura is arrogant and talks a lot of shit but everything he knows he learned under the coach. Without that Boxing knowledge Hawk would've ended him and David would've taken him down with his monster one-two.
Problem with Ippo and the coach, as stated in this chapter, is The fact they stopped doing what made Ippo a scary boxer to begin with. Which were his fundamentals in exchange for a powerful but overhyped move.
Coach ain't perfect, but to call him incompetent feels like bull shit.
Especially when most of Ippo's opponents are such FREAKS
