I actually prefer the main girl with the teacher but really doubt her feelings will turn.

And if you want to be with her so bad why did you push her into being with another guy. I'm assuming he feels if hes around her too long in will trigger memories of her past.

@Starbright Presumably she didn't deliberately do anything wrong but she's the one who actually triggered sensei's death, and he fears how she'd react if she remembered. So he's doing the self-sacrifice thing--both taking the blame and keeping away from her, or trying.
