Totally different actually. Katsumi's mach punch operates off of rotational power. By moving the force from his legs rotating, up his torso and through his back, down his arms and to his fist, it accumulates all of the rotational power of each joint. Baki's move operates off of relaxation into sudden tension. Relaxing all the muscles before suddenly tensing your entire body into an attack. It's actually best compared to the way Kaku uses offensive Shaori.
