@DeadKinginHell if you are talking about MC...well, he’s doing a lot for her and her family, so probably she already understood that, but instead she always says that she hates him. Not a good time to say it.
If you are talking about his friend, you are right, but it’s his first time in a situation like this so I understand his fears.
@AMetroid
The author could still pull a reverse card and activate a trap card: A Rival has Appeared.
If you want to milk the story, there are plenty of ways to do that.
@DeadKinginHell as Professor Oak would say, “there’s a time and place for everything, but not now”.
Marching forward is a good thing -and a lot of romcom MCs should do it- but even throwing yourself of a cliff having 0% chances of survival is not so smart. Manly maybe, but if failure is certain...
@DeadKinginHell That's the kind of development that only appears in Josei/Shoujo series.
A Seinen/Shounen romance manga ends when the characters affirm they love each other.
Try and list off exceptions. The ones that come to mind like, Aa Megami-sama, don't really put the characters relationship as the primary, or even secondary, focus of the manga/anime.
