It is weird to keep it as romanji instead of translating, but some people like keeping it that way, bit similar to using "senpai" instead of "upperclassmen", "senior" or "superior", I like in some cases but find it weird in others.

貴方 in particular I like cause it has a sense of closeness that I don't get from "darling" or "dear", it's word that might be nearly offensive in any other context. Since it plainly means "you", I initially thought of it like "the only you" or like "You", or the "you" that matters the most in my world. Which is only my own perspective and I doubt that makes it a good style, but it's my personal reason for liking it.

Still, in this case I do think it's better to use the proper translation instead of just using romanji, I just like imagining a character saying 貴方, and reading "anata" helps with that. An example where I think just using romanji would be better is "senpai" on spanish TLs, afaik we don't really have a good word such as "upperclassmen" or "senior", anything that fits requires more than one word and just becomes overly wordy and unnatural.

Yeah for me honorifics when addressing someone, like san kun chan senpai should stay because we are used to reading those in english anyways, but if you are speaking english it sounds weird to attach honorifics when speaking. Something about internalizing vs externalitizing.

Yeah it's honestly so sad to see how much misogyny exists in the romance genre. The inequality that exists between gender roles in these types of stories. I guess it's the most common use of 貴方 because you don't typically say "You" in japanese due to it being rude.

Yes it occurs more often in anime and manga, but in traditional spoken japanese it is almost a taboo word. Unless it is used on say a husband, but even then you will not hear it often because it would be something a wife calls her husband at home.

The kanji for it is more rarely used than the hiragana when it is in literature.

The reason it is almost taboo to use it in the general public of Japan is because it is considered rude. When speaking to someone it can be taken as almost shining a spotlight on them. It causes the subject to feel almost cornered, so usually you either omit the subject, or you use their name first or last depending on how close you are. Often times in spoken japanese the subject is omitted if it can easily be implied.

It does what it sets out to do well. It's enjoyable to read but I don't really think about it until it pops back up.

In english context most of the time we use "You" it is not considered rude tho. Like asking "How are you?" Isn't considered rude, but in Japanese it would be rude to say あなたお元気ですか？

Ratings on MD are worthless anyway, worse than those on MAL and similar sites. Almost every manga, no matter how shitty, is rated like 9+, except those that have any kind of controversy in first chapter, which get something like between 4 and 6?

Probably because so few people read specific manga, compared to anime watchers checking out seasonal shows on MAL, so average reader is gonna rate manga they looked for and selected themselves to read, that's why the ratings are so uselessly high - unless they found a manga that they though they're gonna like, but ended up hating it, like with this manga, or that childhood friend romcom turned into edgy drama by White Album author, or any kind of sudden NTR, in which case the ratings are uselessly low. There is just no point to ever look at them or bother about the score.
