Ironically, isn't he subject to the same error that he himself is explaining though? He's attributing their adoration to his assumption that they see him as a savior, when it might as well be them just thanking him for being the one person that ended up defeating the dark lord, regardless of what power he may have. There's a reason why he was called "the boy who lived" and not "the boy who killed the dark lord".

I can see the Professor's point here, canon Harry is more annoying than Voldemort's edginess. It's entirely possible for that to be the actual explanation, before you factor in stuff like the magic of a Mother's sacrifice, or undying love for her child; definitely better than the final book's explanation, that V's use of incredibly dangerous half-understood magic, finally backfired on him at that moment.

He didn't defeat the Dark Lord. He simply happened to survive. Nothing he did had anything to do with it, and even given the total lack of information the people have, that much is obvious.

That's what I'm saying though. The people love him regardless of whatever he did, or lack thereof, because the outcome was that they were simply saved. He was at the right place at the right time that resulted in the defeat of the dark lord, so him saying they love him because he "defeated the dark lord" seems ironic.

Oh this is still going? Interesting...
I think Harry is just pointing out things here. Maybe its sarcasm?
