i've been taken out of immersion in other stories with clothing choices and architecture that is too obviously past even the renaissance so this isn't anything new; just pray the story is good enough that this doesn't matter as much

That sort of stuff is pretty bad, but modern slang is worse. For me, at least.

I cringe when I see a peasant wearing Ye Olde T-shirte and Jeanes, but modern slang always kills immersion the fastest. One misplaced Zoomerism is enough to completely take me out of the story.

As stated earlier "cooked" is not actually "modern" slang unless everyone should be speaking renaissance english. Ernest Hemingway was NOT a time traveler as far as I know.
