For those wondering, the puzzle they're making is a replica of one the "Toteninsel" (Isle of the Dead) paintings, by Arnold Bocklin. There are many interpretations of these paintings but it usually goes along the lines of representing the final journey of the dead, and the acceptance of their departure for their living relatives.

So, here for the old lady it could be interpreted as both her being done with the past (and being done with decluttering all of her and her past husband's belongings) while also moving from the loss of her husband towards her new friends
