The television program they're watching and their comments makes it seem like the lady being interviewed is being unreasonable, but... 8 million yen is just $55.000 or €46,000.-... Not an exorbitant amount of money at all. Not enough to imply the lady is a gold digger or something, at least.
I wonder what the average salary in Japan is. In fact, I'mna look it up right now.
EDIT: Holy fucking shit, this is tragic -

Yea, no, don't move to Glorious Nippon if you want to make some money, lmao. I've been to Japan a few times for vacation and found that prices are pretty damn close to western Europe, especially in touristy areas and big cities. Food does tend to be cheaper, of course, especially eating out. But this makes larger purchases much more impactful. I've also looked at rent and mortgage costs, and they aren't really as low as I'd have expected - especially a place like Tokyo is ridiculously expensive (unless you go for one of those terrible "tiny apartments", like a 5m2 room where you shit on the balcony or something).
Funny how a nonsensical manga about a bunch of dysfunctional siblings made me learn something. Terrible.
