The scene between Emi and Maou in the middle of this chapter is actually such a big deal. It finally clears up to us readers why Emi acts so stubbornly, and hints at why Maou acts so strangely non-malicious, as well as what way their arc might go.
It at the very least got me to keep reading when my opinion of this before was "A bit fun, but a bit dumb."
