They should think about being or not together a bit longer. He plains to comeback, but nothing stops him from changing his mind and keep living there and Yuzu doesn't even know what she wants to work with. And international flights are expensive!

that's a good thing actually. This whole globalization of English is causing other languages to die out like welsh and native languages.

@ribbitribbitsaga Really helps you in life not to know English or any other language to use with foreigners from afar. It's easy for you to say it's a good thing when you are here communicating in English with a non-native English speaker. Sure, there are lots of people in my home country lamenting the huge impact of English, but as far as I'm concerned, it's great there's a language all the people in the world can use to interact with each other. Only tyrannies discourage learning it because they don't want the citizens to get ideas from abroad, let alone cooperate with foreigners.

No. In order to to communicate with foreigners one must assimilate to the other's culture. It wasn't easy to be born form the right woman lmao. I think that's great, your countrymen seem rational. What would be greater though is that as people from other countries learn more languages because even the English native speaker borrows words from other languages like Schadenfreude from German. That is some dick you are smoking because there are well meaning reasons to not learn English like I pointed out the deaths of other languages. I think it goes back on the huge importance foreigners put on countries that are native English speaking. Maybe that's due to an inferiority complex idk 🤷‍♀️

@ribbitribbitsaga What sovereign country has changed its native language into English as the official language? If some language dies, then it dies because nobody wants to use it. You seem to live in a world where people exist for the languages, I live in a world where languages exist for the people. Forcefully resuscitated languages are nothing but academic curiocities. You mentioned Welsh before, but Wales is not a sovereign nation. Logically Boris Johson would fully support Waxit, after which an independent Wales could make Welsh the only official language. Then we could see how it goes.

I'll leave assimilation to the Borg. If you travel to Country X for a week as a tourist or to do business, why the heck would you want any assimilation? It's enough to know how to behave not to insult the locals accidentally and perhaps know a few words and phrases. If you need to study two years to make a one week trip, you might as well not travel at all.

I don't know about your home country but where I'm coming from, nobody worships the native English speaking countries. I live in a decently patriotic country. However, like you said, it's also a rational country, so it's still within the top 10 non-native English speaking countries, like all the Nordic countries. If English is a highly useful skill, it makes sense to possess that skill. Just like any other necesary skill.

That is why I pointed out its a good thing because it caused the death of languages. It should not be left to the nerd to save these languages. I only mentioned welsh because I thought it was a dying language which from further research it is not and that's good to hear.
Are you not speaking English? You are assimilating. We do not have to speak your native tongue to communicate, you have to speak mine however.
Also just carry a dictionary lmao
It should not be, but it is thus its is put on a huge importance to learn the language in different countries. This is how I concluded that. We do not have to learn other languages to communicate with others in the country but foreigners apparently need to (they should not).

@ribbitribbitsaga Some wishful people tried to develop a seemingly neutral language that everybody would need to learn equally, with nobody having the home advantage, Esperanto. It didn't really end up working, aside from the handful of enthusiasts, who could be described as treating it as a hobby. English became the international language by chance. It could have been Spain or something else as well, but it was the empire where the sun never sets and the commercial might of the British empire and the USA combined which caused it. Of course it helps English is an exceedingly simple language if you ignore the pronunciation. However, badly pronounced English still works, so it's not a huge problem. Kind of hard to see how Chinese could take its place, for example, when you'd need to learn 5,000 characters, whereas English, technically, has nothing beyond the A-Z scale.

English can be used as a means of communication between an Italian and a Japanese person, so it's not anymore about the native English countries. That's how I view English, as a person from a non-native English country. It's great we have such a language. I don't care if the British or American (or Canadian or Australian, etc) feel proud about it.
