So as this was supposed to be the setup for a word pun I think the "Hotcakes" bubble was supposed to be "leavening", which is an ingredient used to make dough/batter (like hotcake batter) rise and become light and fluffy. It also sounds like "leave him" which is why Rofas misheard her and was in despair at the comment.

That would make a good English version of the joke, but in Japanese the word for "hotcakes" sounds like "Hottoke" (not sure of exact spelling) Which means something along the lines of "Just leave it", thus how she repeated it before landing on hotcakes.
