Tbf, it’s a systematic failure of their society, he can take out the problem makers now, but the next one will pop out.
If he wanted to make it lasts it cannot be a covert assassination, it has to be something striking that serves as a warning for others.

King should know better than anyone not to cross this murderhobo.

He didn't cross Loran.

The King, as a king, wouldn't be able to punish the noble without causing massive fallouts in the process because of all the politics around it.
That's why he's going to pretend he never knew anything and gave Loran the implicit go-ahead to do whatever he has in mind.

He's the knife that cut, at best he can do is clear out the rot and leave a healthy sapling behind to recover the land (i.e. some conveniently not-corrupted, down the line of succession kid that has moral and probably has been mocked by the corrupted ones)

The king might be able to come in after Loran's murder spree to 'investigate' and become 'shocked' by all the evil deeds done by the Marquis, giving him reason to act without repercussion.

Definitely can’t blame the king too much. This dude brings in 25% of the kingdom s revenue. Think about how many thousands or tens of thousands would die without his support. Even just giving mc permission to kill him is probably gonna cause a lot of innocents to die.

never easy when the corrupt dude is actually competent and useful. Sure he can be replaced but it’ll take time for the new guy to learn the ropes, he won’t have the same connections and he may never be as affective

Sadly, the king can't actually do much if that family accounts for so much of the state budget. This is the case in the real world as well and the reason Ireland doesn't want to interfere with the 10 companies that pays 50% of their corporates tax income, for example.

Loran said Laila doesn't have the magic to cast her new spell. I've been thinking this for a while, but isn't it time that he got rid of the magic-sealing collar on her? I mean, she has never once tried to oppose him(that I can remember), and I no longer see a reason for her to have it on(unless she thinks of it as some kind of wedding ring or something)...

That's a bit of a strange greeting.

Just catering to picky children isn't the best idea. Better to teach them to not be picky in the first place. Though there is somewhat of a point, since children have more sensitive taste buds than adults.

Their energies are so mismatched no matter how they turn.

Not everyone can barge in on the king like that and be welcomed.

It's tough being a king. Sometimes doing what you want to do and feel morally obligated to do can easily bring ruin to the entire country.

Logistically speaking. arresting murdering or deposing the whole family and donating the land to another family (preferably split up) would solve the problem and the kingdoms "funds" would be mostly unscathed.
That probably only work if the wealth comes purely from the land, and I'm sure there will still be some complication that needs a lot of time when splitting up the land
