That guy is a real trash but what he said isn't wrong. There's no way to avoid collateral damages with that scale of battle. You only think otherwise if you have only lived in a pipe dream. His behavior might be questionable but his logic actually sounds. Author needs to think harder and came up with a better scenario than that but I think I'm asking for an impossible considering how he can only write a story full of cliches.
