The scroll was part of the sage hero journal. It's important because the MC had the goddess blessing to understand all the letters in this world. But he could not read these letters. So he surmised that this is something beyond the goddess's understanding and might be of use to oppose her. The elf couldn't read it either but she heard a rumor of someone that might be able to read it.

Her ears are something else. On the cover they are elven, after she undid her transformation they were human looking and during her transformation her elven looking ears went from almost 70 degrees up to not much more than 20 degrees up.
