There's no guarantee it was voluntary (keep in mind he had spies watching her grandparents, there's no guarantee that he wasn't willing to station troops at her home making damn sure they "let him" marry their daughter), even then we also don't know if the king was always so scummy or if he changed over time, alot of questions need to be answered to know how much blame the grandparents deserve.

@Tatsuya-kun I agree, there is too little info, for all we know mc's mom said fatso was constantly pestering her family about marriage,implying he had proposed not just once, perhaps they should have left before that pestering grew into something bigger. When cruel lord is wanting something from you, it is wise to escape the moment you get ro know about it.
