2006 is like, Haruhi S1 era. Otaku were busy dancing Hare Hare Yukai on NicoNico and early YT then. Also the heyday of early KyoAni adaptations, we had Haruhi, FMP! TSR, Air, Kanon (2006).

I wonder if there'll be references here. Yeah, I'm a Heisei otaku and I remember.

Ahh 2006, I'm on my way to graduate from grade school that year but I have seen quite a lot of anime but manga is where I consume a lot of stuff. Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan, Love Hina and GTO was my favorite (And still are).

This was also the year that Air Gear aired on my local TV and when my parents subscribed to cable TV which had Animax on it and I watched Gakuen Alice and Kyou Kara Maou there.
