@durende If humans take pleasure in hurting other humans, hurting other races is even easier.

Besides, like Vamirio said earlier, it's not like all the other races (the so called demons) would necessarily be so much more peaceful. The recent chapters just introduced two non-human kingdoms whose war totally annihilated both. In the early chapters after humans had attacked and defeated Tooru castle, a few of the empire fighters were ready to go and destroy the humans. All in all you'd guess much of the internal coherence of the empire is due to the endless war they are fighting in the north against the new world monsters and within the country against the poison and the monsters the poisons gives birth to. The empire simply has too little resources to sport many internal conflicts. It's actually basic psychology. If there's a powerful external enemy, the population will pay far less attention to domestic problems, real or imagined. It's an effect many governments, especially totalitarian ones, put to great use.
