This can come as a bit of a shock to western readers, accustomed as they are to highly sanitized treatments of tween and early-teen knowledge, behavior and experience. (That the few examples to the contrary are so controversial only highlights how unusual such honesty is.) Media consumers can each judge to what extent such treatments are appropriate and which are exploitive, of course, but let's not judge blindly or categorically.

What I meant by "sexualized" is being targetted by the audience. Of course, 13 year olds are sexual beings but presenting them as objects of lust for adults is generally seen as a negative.
