Yeah, the novel go more in detail about that.
Basically, the MC got to deal with this insect day after day. He was the only one who saw these insects, so he had to deal with them alone.
He was seen as a fool for randomly stomping on the floor or wall and mocked by the staff. The worst was one of them fall into his coffee cup, and he didn't notice until after drinking, but couldn't spit it because he was in front of his fiancé.
When he finally finds the root of it, he was so enrage that he didn't register he should have kept him alive for torture and let him understood his suffering. He regret it later.

Or, as mentioned in this episode, magicians.. Especially when you have no or very few magicians of your own.
