There was a potential here for being darker and crueler, but I'm glad it didn't go too far in that direction. At least the kid is ready to kill. I think it's a pretty decent setup for a series... you know the usual one off stories of the kid dealing with various demons/spirits, and occasionally linking it up with the main one. The main theme would be how to overturn deception...

Honestly, I don’t really see a serialization working. The reason why this oneshot worked so well was because it starts out with just making you think “oh it’s a metaphor of PTSD” before hitting you with a left hook. It’s something that wouldn’t really have the same impact if it lingered on this specific situation and just did variations of it.

But for what it is, it was a good story for Spooky Day.

so, close to Saya no Uta (man who sees monsters after accident). Big difference is he didn't fall in love with the monster leaving the monster to keep being a monster.

very much agreed

really good for a one-shot story.
But, if this story were to be continued as a ghost hunting story, it seems the shock value would be drastically diminished over time.
