Though I am surprised that most of them wouldn't know several languages unless they all lived in a village that only used one tongue before they ventured out. All the North African guys I know speak English and 2 or more other languages, yet they have numerous species which have different ways of functioning which would make it harder.

@Liquidxlax You're talking about the modern world where traveling and communication have been made incredibly easier. In a medieval-like world like HL's, it's not surprising for not-so-distant people not to speak the same language, particularly if they have strong morphological and psychological differences to begin with.
