Reader: Deary, you do not want an Oscar on your resume (unless you're an actress, since you'll get paid more). The Oscars lost all credibility more than a decade ago when the "committee" gave that Titanic chick-flick all those awards. They could've at least recovered some dignity a couple of years ago by giving Best Director to George Miller who blew our frickin minds, but instead they myopically recognized that other director guy who made some fatiguing revenge dredgefest for the sole purpose of that ninja turtle named actor getting his hollow Best Actor award.

Why are Hibiki and Rika friends? They've really barely interacted, and whenever they have it's been bombastic and antagonistic. Furthermore whenever they'd hangout Rika would compare herself unfavourably to Hibiki, so what exactly is the basis for this "best friend", "nooo, I didn't mean to hurt you" relationship?

This could have really used a chapter or two solidifying their bond, because as it stands, it'd be reasonable for Rika to hate Hibiki, but it comes across as unreasonable that they supposedly have a "good" relationship.

I think you've a point. However, it was some chapters back; someone(I think Takaya, after Hibiki and Rika fought, but not sure) had mentioned that Rika had always got along with everyone she ever met, but with Hibiki that time was the first time she was seriously mad, or showed that she hated someone. I would suppose that intrinsically means that Rika had a relationship that was deeper with Hibiki than anyone else. So from Rika's perspective, the 'best friend' aspect may have some validity.

Saying this, I'd probably still lean more towards your argument a bit more than the aforementioned point above.
