Is he possessed by the Mage that tried to obtain immortality? Because I'm starting to think that she didn't actually defeat him. Also she can use Magic? Because she said that she changed her gender using ancient Magic.

Yeah, I'm guessing either Lu is somehow involved with the evil skelly mage, perhaps even being him, or he was someone who worked to resurrect the hero.

I wonder why she chose to become her brother? To ensure people remember him and his name? That's kind of a sweet gesture if so - though it's probably more likely that she did it because women can't become soldiers or some such.
