Yeah Sotsugou was ultimately bad and all but hell, the chapters for this manga averaged 0-1 comments up until they put the original girls in dominatrix gear.

Like I’m gonna be so fr, Polaris would’ve gotten the fuck out by now, because I would not want to be friends with any of these people who simultaneously virtue signal then regress into mob mentality over the slightest provocation
Whole point of the original was learning to trust and yet these mfs seem determined to throw that message in the garbage over a doctrine that was literally renounced in the story it loosely references
Not to mention how much of a walking archetype Polaris is
Even Ryukishi can’t escape the institutionalised racism of his country it seems

I'd still read this manga till the end but Higurashi newer series has been god awful

At least Meguri bring a better progress and ending than Sotsu.
