Wait, so does that imply "Hikaru" is actually the great Unuki, since he said "even if I don't take him back with me," or does it imply Hikaru is on the lookout for anything else that could snatch up his friend?

It might be both. Hikaru might be the Great Unuki but doesn't believe he is, therefore he wants to save the one he loves (Yoshiki) from Unuki. He might have had the chance to pronounce his love for Yoshiki but didn't take it. That's why the Unuki took hold of his body.
