Regarding these revelations, I think it's pretty common for superstitions to turn out to be just the way humans interpreted phenomenon they didn't understand, so I believe this was the plan and not the author having second thoughts and "retconning".

i'm gonna be real i don't really understand the lore anymore, it feels convoluted and more confusing than necessary, and my brain is as smooth as a marble i will not try to understand it (i also ignore most of jjk's info dumps lmao) but i am very invested in these two characters and their dynamic, excited to see what tragic ending they'll have
