The balance of ML and FL is pretty good. Like they each have aspects that could make them sort of unlikeable but combined they sorta cancel each other out.
FL almost setting ML on fire and then dousing him with water makes him not seem like a completely insufferable prick when he drops his mask.
But he's still kind of a prick so you don't really feel bad that he has to deal with FL's antics. Which makes FL seem a lot less annoying than she would if he were more sympathetic.
